Short answer: in November 2026, two-player pickleball sets at Australian retailers ranged from $24.99 (Aerobie set at Rebel Sport, two paddles and one ball) to $189.99 (Prince Ultraglide set with two carbon fibre paddles). Most sets include two paddles and two to four balls; some add a carry bag. The sets I checked did not include a net. For a family or a beginner couple, a mid-priced fibreglass set around $130 to $160 costs about the same as one mid-range paddle.

Google's Australian autocomplete suggestions for "pickleball set" include Kmart, Big W, Rebel and Anaconda. Here is what I could confirm.

Prices were read on retailer pages in November 2026 and change often. Kmart and Big W pages would not load for me, so I could not confirm their current sets or prices.

Are cheap pickleball sets any good?

They do the job for backyard and holiday games, and they are a cheap way to find out whether you like the sport. What you give up at the bottom end is information: the cheapest sets I found did not state paddle materials or weights, so you cannot compare them with single paddles. From about $80 up, sets list the paddle material (aluminium, fibreglass or carbon fibre), and the $130 sets use fibreglass paddles like the ones in many single paddles at that price.

Set vs single paddles: which is better value?

If you are...Consider
Trying pickleball with a partner or kidsA set: two paddles and balls for the price of one mid-range paddle
Joining a club and playing weeklyA single paddle you have tried first; Pickleball Australia says venues provide balls for organised sessions
Planning to enter sanctioned tournamentsA single paddle on an approved list, checked before you buy
Equipping four peopleTwo sets, or one set plus two budget paddles

A mid-range single paddle cost $129.99 to $179.99 when I checked (see the paddle guide), so the $129.99 two-player sets are good value if you need two paddles.

Do pickleball sets come with a net?

None of the sets in my table listed a net. "Pickleball set with net" is a common search, but I did not find such a set on the Australian retailer pages I checked. If you buy a separate portable net, check it can be set to the regulation height: 91.44 cm at the sidelines and 86.36 cm at the centre, with posts about 6.71 m apart.

For social play, any paddle is fine. For Pickleball Australia sanctioned tournaments, the paddle must be on the USA Pickleball or UPA-A approved list, and Pickleball Australia warns that printed approval stamps are not always reliable. If a set's paddle is not on a list, keep it for social games.
