Pickleball gear: what you need and what it costs in Australia

A guide to pickleball gear for Australians with real 2026 AUD prices: paddles, indoor and outdoor balls, court shoes and beginner sets, plus where they are sold.

Short answer: to start pickleball you need a paddle, a few balls and court shoes. In November 2026, Australian retailers sold single paddles from about $45, two-player sets from $24.99, and 3-packs of balls for $12 to $20. Pickleball Australia says most venues will lend you a paddle and provide balls for organised sessions, so you can try before you buy.

I checked prices on Australian retailer websites in November 2026. I do not use affiliate links, and nothing on this site is sponsored. Prices change, so treat the figures as typical ranges.

Where is pickleball gear sold in Australia?

I confirmed pickleball gear online at Rebel Sport, Decathlon Australia, Tennis Gear, JOOLA Australia and Anaconda. I could not load Kmart or Big W pages to confirm their range. Some clubs and private centres also run pro shops; my city guides mention several.

What should a beginner buy first?

  1. Nothing, for your first session or two. Borrow a paddle at a come-and-try session.
  2. Court shoes if you do not have them. Pickleball Australia lists court shoes with good grip as what to wear.
  3. A paddle around 220 to 235 g once you know you like the game. Every retailer above had options under $100.
  4. Balls to suit where you play, if you will play outside club sessions.

If you plan to play sanctioned tournaments, check your paddle is on an approved list first. The paddle guide explains how.
