Short answer: Hobart's pickleball is club-based. Pickleball Tasmania lists four affiliated clubs in the south (Kingborough, Northern Suburbs Hobart, Eastern Shore and South Hobart) plus community groups at Richmond, Dodges Ferry and Sorell. Most play indoors at sports centres: Moonah Sports Centre, Clarence Sports Centre in Montagu Bay, the H. Thompson Badminton Centre in South Hobart and Kingborough Sports Centre in Kingston. Several clubs run introductory sessions for complete beginners.
I did not find any large commercial pickleball centres in Hobart. Instead, a handful of clubs share sports centre time, and several are set up to bring new players in. Here is who plays where.
Who runs pickleball in Tasmania?
Pickleball Tasmania is the state member of Pickleball Australia and runs the membership portal for Tasmanian clubs. Its Where to Play page lists the southern affiliated incorporated clubs and community groups. It does not publish a member count on its home page.

Northern suburbs: Moonah, Glenorchy and Claremont
Northern Suburbs Hobart Pickleball Club runs New Player and Introduction to Pickleball sessions and plays at Moonah Sports Centre, YMCA Glenorchy and the Cadbury tennis courts, according to Pickleball Tasmania's listing.
Its growth shows how quickly the sport has caught on in Hobart. In a submission to the Tasmanian Parliament's Public Works Committee about the new Glenorchy Sports Centre, the club said it grew from 23 players in August 2022 to 164 members, with 388 players registered at its venues. The State Government's Glenorchy Sports Centre on Claremont Link Road, with four indoor multisport courts, is planned to cater for pickleball among other sports, with completion due in mid-2027.
South Hobart and New Town
South Hobart Pickleball Club (SOHO) plays at the H. Thompson Badminton Centre at 101 Cascade Road on weekdays, plus a Thursday evening session at Hobart City High School in New Town. If you have never played, the club requires you to do its monthly coach-led Intro to Pickleball session before joining socials. That is a good model for beginners, because you learn the rules before you are thrown into games.
Hobart City Council's Healthy Hobart program also ran a free beginner pickleball event at the same Cascade Road venue in August 2025, open to ages 5 and over.
Eastern Shore
Eastern Shore Pickleball Club plays at Clarence Sports Centre in Montagu Bay on Monday, Thursday and Sunday mornings, and has equipment for players who are brand new to the game. Further east, Sorell Pickleball plays at South East Stadium in Sorell and at Primrose Sands Community Centre.
Kingston and Kingborough
Kingborough Sports Centre in Kingston opened four purpose-built indoor pickleball courts in February 2021, which the Kingborough Chronicle described as the first in Tasmania. Kingborough Pickleball Club plays sessions there through the week, plus night sessions at the Margate school hall.
